Art Education Portfolio
7th Grade:
Students study in Social Studies Medieval History and Renaissance History.
In art we cover the art history of these time periods to expand their understanding of the past.
Here are a few subjects we cover:


Illuminated
Letter
Students critique a page in the Book of Kells. The work put into bookmaking from the Dark Ages is explained.
As a beginning lesson students are required to use the first letter from their first, middle, or last name.
Students have the option to trace their letter or freehand their letter.
Students must also add a personal symbol (things they like or do).
AND, they must add gold or silver (or glitter) to illuminate their work.


Tessellation
Students are introduced to M.C. Escher. With math and puzzle like problem solving, students create a tessellation and recognize them in their everyday life.



Renaissance Turtles / Artists
Students are introduced to the Renaissance artist with various lessons:

Michelangelo: Draw under the table like Michelangelo did for the Sistine Chapel for 4 years.

Leonardo: Students create a Mona Lisa Parody and compete in a Spaghetti Challenge - for he was a famous engineer.

Rapheal: Students learn the proportions of the human face.

Donaltello: Students create a clay pot.

Impressionism
Students are introduced to Monet and Impressionism.
Students learn to work with watercolors and watercolor pencils.
They are required to create 2 differently lighted watercolor landscapes.
