6th Grade:

Students study in Social Studies World History.

In art we cover the art history of the world. We travel from Henna in India to Gyotaku in Japan, and soar over China with Chinese Dragons; and, we tell stories with art from China, Greece, and Egypt.

Here are a few subjects we cover:

Texture, Color and
Dragons

Students gain an understanding of the color wheel and texture.
I read an ancient legend of a Chinese dragon.

Students create a dragon eye and a dragon (made from a paper plate).

Greek Vases

Students analyse Greek vases and their myths. Stories were often told on the vases.

Students create a story for their own vase.

Using scratch paper they made, they create an illustration for their story.

Egyptian
 Sarcophagus

Students work in group up to 4 to create a life size Egyptian Sarcophagus.

In addition, students create a story for the e mummy. The art must help tell the story and use art techniques learned in the 9 week.
